Huntington Area Art Society presentation: THE RELIQUARY OF SAINT FOY

October 11

Cellar Door | 905 3rd Ave

6:30 pm

The Fall 2017 Huntington Area Art Society presentation will be on the Reliquary of Saint Foy by Rachel Danford, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Art History at Marshall University,  Wednesday, October 11, 6:30 pm at The Cellar Doo

The Reliquary of Ste. Foy (983-1003. Precious metalwork and gems over a wooden core, 33 1/2" tall, Treasury of the Abbey Church of Ste. Foy, Conques) will be our focus. At once a statue and a container for relics, the work was part of a promotional campaign launched by the monks of the abbey in Conques, France to attract pilgrims to the site. The talk will explore the many ways in which the object was used to refashion the abbey's institutional identity at a crucial moment in its history.

$10 payable at the event; free with a Marshall ID.
Sponsored by the Marshall University College of Arts and Media and the School of Art & Design
